Scientists Finally Admit Parting of the Red Sea Was Possible

Teresa Neumann

Parting of the Red Sea?"People have always been fascinated by this Exodus story, wondering if it comes from historical facts. What this study shows is that the description of the waters parting indeed has a basis in physical laws."

For years, atheists have dismissed Biblical miracles as myths or outright fabrications. Although Christians and Jews believe these miracles—such as the parting of the Red Sea—truly happened and were orchestrated by God Almighty Himself, it is only recently that researchers have come to admit that, at least scientifically, the Red Sea really could have parted for the fleeing Children of Israel.

A report in The Daily Mail details how U.S. scientists studied ancient maps of the Nile Delta region, pinpointed where the crossing may have occurred, and then studied computer modeling which suggested a powerful wind "could have divided the waters just as depicted in the Biblical story."

According to the report: "Analysis of archaeological records, satellite measurements and maps allowed the researchers to estimate the water flow and depth at the site 3,000 years ago. An ocean computer model was then used to simulate the impact of a strong overnight wind on the six-foot-deep waters. The scientists found that an east wind of 63 mph blowing for 12 hours would have driven the shallow waters back, both into the lake and the river channel. For a period of four hours, this would have created a land bridge about two miles long and three miles wide. The waters really would have been parted, with barriers of water raised on both sides of the newly exposed mud flats. As soon as the winds dropped, the waters would have rushed back, much like a tidal bore. Anyone stranded on the mud flats would have been at risk of drowning."

Lead researcher Carl Drews, from the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, said: "The simulations match fairly closely with the account in Exodus. The parting of the waters can be understood through fluid dynamics. The wind moves the water in a way that’s in accordance with physical laws, creating a safe passage with water on two sides and then abruptly allowing the water to rush back in. People have always been fascinated by this Exodus story, wondering if it comes from historical facts. What this study shows is that the description of the waters parting indeed has a basis in physical laws."

What the researchers’ conclusions fail to account for, in relation to the Biblical story, is how everything conspired to happen at exactly the right moments to allow the Israelites to cross over, and then immediately turned again to drown the pursuing Egyptians. Nor can it explain how thousands of fleeing refugees could cross over mud. The land had to be dry for that to occur.

Still, such an admission coming from the scientific community is just that: an admission that the event was possible. If nothing else, it is a step away from complete denial.

I think these findings are very commendable. Although from a Christian perspective it is confirmed spiritually thorugh faith that the Bible is fact, evidence leading to verification is also conforting.

thank u Dr philips,ur efforts shall be rewarded here and the for the scientist et al,they are Cain’s descendants who av bn programd by their father,d devil not to accept, believe, obey without reason to evidence(s)i feel the sovereign Lord is so humble as to tolerate their unbelievism.i also feel that the church DOES NOT owe the world apology for what God has done nor explanation to what they refused. to align with.everything about our God and his operations has alwys bn by not seeing but believing first, scientists shud accept the bible totally or stand out to loose with their father, the evil one.conclusively, replying brethren shud leave an e-mail,phone numbers etc for inter students correspondences

I find it amazing why so many christians find this so amazing. Like the bible says..God made the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. I find it more amazing on the probability of their being an earth after a big bang. What is the probability??? 1X10 to the 123rd power. NOw that’s amazing!!! Or how about the countless galaxies and stars that are in them. If one could at least fathom God’s creation then a simple little thing like the parting of the red sea would be no big deal. I mean for christians anyway. I don’t see why the secular world would even say that because a wind it might have happened. Everyone should KNOW that if God wanted to part the Atantic..from the US to Europe..HE COULD DO IT. NO Wind needed!!!!

The world scientist and Atheist will not come to terms with the red sea miracles of God,but evantually accepting Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.Very intersting and Glory be to God almighty,if He can arrest soul ,then time is coming for most of the scientist and atheist to be arrested by him.”His word can never return void”

I have never doubted the parted of the red sea, the reason is that there has been so many miracles still happening in our century which confirms what has been written in the bible by the inspiration of God. If a woman who have been married for over 10 years without a child, 3 different doctors from 3 hospitals confirmed she does not have a womb/uturus have found the favour of God, conceived for 9 months a delivered a baby who is still alive, that same God is able to part the red sea into two. Praise be to his holy name

I can’t help but wonder… if this is indeed what happened, did God choose to blow the wind Himself, or did He cause the wind to blow on its own… after all, He could have chosen to do either…
It is all quite fascinating… Thank you for this fabulous article! It is one of my favorite biblical stories!

This, in a philosophical sense, does not prove the truthfulness of the Bible because God’s Word remains true forever. But it wonderfully confirm it. Glory be to God!

Perhaps when the red sea was parted, the jews threw down clothing or other items on top the mud which would have helped make a bridge atop the mud.

The scientists have really tried, but the truth is that the Sacred Scripture does not require scientific proof for it to be credible.

Glory to God! We do not need human evidence in order to believe the things God penned down for our knowing in the Holy Scripture. When the infinite One speaks to the finite the only response needed is to believe Him because He cannot lie. After all, He is the Creator of all things and the Supreme Governor and Sustainer of the universe.

    Dear Friends,

God Almighty is Super-natural. No human being in this world with any such a title, name, or what ever qualification in the past, at present and in the future can ever compare to Him. He alone is far above great. Thus, actually Eternal Divine Supernatural. All thus He said in His Holy Word (The Holy Bible) is final. My only prayer for the world is that, all religious movements, non religious movements, beliefs and human theories may come to the point that all should realise that God does not want any single soul should perish, but all should turn to repentence. However, all people must hear, and must know thus None can escape the judgement of God that will fall on us. The scientists are not the exception thus know everything. They too must understand that none is above. Thank God that they had come to realise that the Crossing of Red Sea is unique and evidentually proving true. So who are we to question the unique and unwordable works of God.

So, being an evangelical believer from the uttermost part of the earth, I so thankful to Johovah Elohim for His Supremcy and Ozomeness is un comparable. I am preparing for the returning of His son Jesus Christ, my Lord and my soon coming King. Glory be to God.

Well before scientist were, God was. They take pride in studying what He created.Their so called ‘discoveries’ are a mere confirmation of His greatness. He is the auther of all the sciences one can conceive. So Creation confirms science not science creation

Only in very few instances has God himself stepped into his creation and effected change with his own hand… that is to say, it is one of God’s glories to use or orchestrate his servants (such as an East wind) to accomplish his will. We desire strongly to have our miracles be “magic”, only something God could do, but He doesn’t play the game that way. That would be cheating. Winning just because he’s God and can snap his fingers and change reality isn’t fair play. He abides by the rules of reality that he set up. I suspect as time goes on we’ll discover that more and more of the the miracles we thought were “God magic” will be proven as scientifically possible. What is mind boggling still is God’s orchestration of natural wonders to his own purposes, as someone said earlier, what can’t be explained is the synchronicity of events. Oh, but here’s another rule that God plays by, he will only act on the earth if a man asks him to. Look into that, and then look at what Jesus asks for in John 17. Cheers!

It’s good when science is aligning itself with the established truth, it shows God creates and science discovers what He has created.

Science has from the time of the enlightenment attacked the Bible, it is therfore good to see that Science itself is not the seen as holding all the answers!

Wow! this is really interesting. I always find it powerful when science can show plausibility of stories that are described in the bible.
